Gli inizi della carriera
É nella città del Missouri che incontra il musicista Ike Turner. Insieme registrano Little Ann nel 1958 e nel 1960 A Fool In Love che ottiene subito un notevole successo, giungendo ai primi posti nelle classifiche internazionali. Tina e Ike si sposano nel 1962 a Tijuana, ma il matrimonio viene invalidato perché Ike non ottiene il divorzio dalla prima moglie. Comunque Tina prende il cognome di Ike. Dopo una serie di insuccessi, nel 1971 Proud Mary raggiunge il quarto posto nelle classifiche e diventa uno dei capisaldi del repertorio di Ike e Tina. Nel 1974 Tina si separa da Ike a causa del suo carattere violento e anche dal punto di vista musicale non riesce più ad esprimere quello che ha dentro.
Il successo
La sua rinascita (sia come persona che come artista) avviene nel 1979 con l'incontro con Roger Davies, un manager australiano che la porta con sé a Los Angeles e la trasforma in una delle più grandi voci musicali di tutti i tempi. Nello stesso anno viene per la prima volta chiamata al Festival di Sanremo come ospite straniera, onore che le spetterà ben altre tre volte (1990, 1996 e 2000). Il singolo What's Love Got To Do With It (estate 1984) rimane per tre settimane il numero uno delle classifiche.
Nel 1985 è nel cast di Mad Max: oltre la sfera del tuono (con Mel Gibson), per la quale Tina Turner canta la canzone-tema del film We don't need another hero. La canzone raggiunge il secondo posto in classifica. Ma è soprattutto l'album Private Dancer (11 milioni di copie vendute) che la lanciano come star internazionale. Il successo prosegue nel 1986 con Typical Male, seguito da altri ottimi lavori come Foreign affair (1989), Wildest dreams (1996) e Twenty Four Seven (2000).
